20 Quick and Healthy Flatbread Pizza Recipes (2024)

Flatbreads make a delicious and easy base for homemade pizza. You can make dough from scratch, but I find using store-bought naan, pita, focaccia, etc. to be a great time-saver for busy weeknights. You simply add toppings, bake a few minutes, and dinner is served.

Flatbread pizzas are an excellent choice for those who need something quick, and easy for a weeknight dinner. There is no need to wait hours for pizza dough to rise when flatbreads are so readily available. Plus they are a great way to introduce children to trying new foods. My kids loved being able to help me prepare flatbread pizzas in our kitchen, and they gobbled them up!

Flatbread Pizza Ideas

Here I have 15 different pizza recipe ideas for you to try. They range from traditional pepperoni and mozzarella to sweet berry dessert pizzas.

Save Time with Store-Bought Bread

I find that store-bought bread is a real-time saver for my family. I don’t have to wait for the dough to rise and I can get dinner on the table in under 30 minutes. But you can choose whatever flatbread you want to use, store-bought or make your own.

Great options include naan bread and pita which are available at most supermarkets these days; focaccia is another great choice, as are split English muffins more individual pizza snacks. Other options include roti, frybread, lavash for a super-thin crust, and cheptai.

How To Make Flatbread Pizza?

At home, I bake my flatbread pizzas on 13×18 baking sheets in a preheated 425˚F oven. I use these heavier-duty Nordicware baking sheets because they disperse heat evenly and the bottom of the pizza crisps a bit. A pizza stone also works really well to crisp up the crust and bake pizzas.

Depending on the size of the bread I’m using, I can bake flatbread pizzas in batches of 2 to 4. In a 425° oven, it takes about 10-12 minutes for the crust to crisp a bit, heat up the toppings, and melt the cheese. Note – This time is dependent upon how many toppings you use. If cooking on two baking sheets at a time, it’s best to rotate the baking sheets 180˚ and switch racks for even baking.

How to Grill Flatbread Pizza?

Grilling flatbread pizzas is a great way to cook them outdoors. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (400-450˚ F).

Place the flatbreads on the preheated grill and cook for about 2 minutes per side until they are crispy and have grill marks. Remove from the grill and top with your favorite toppings. Return to the grill and cook for an additional minute or two until the cheese is melted.
