Bourbon Slush Recipe (1)

I’ve never been one for big, extravagant New Year’s Eve celebrations, instead preferring to enjoy a quiet evening at home, watching a movie or playing games and cards. This year will be quieter than most, as my Chief Culinary Consultant’s Nana passed away on Friday, and we will be attending the funeral service this morning. I do have one last-minute New Year’s Eve recipe to share with you on the heels of yesterday’s New Year’s Eve recipe roundup, in the event that you’ll be hosting or attending a New Year’s get-together this evening. This bourbon slush is delicious, easy and sure to please a crowd!

Bourbon Slush Recipe (2)

This recipe comes courtesy of the same pre-wedding recipe sharing session with my bff that yielded Mrs. Waterman’s Stuffed Mushrooms. You boil a simple syrup and combine it with lemonade concentrate, orange concentrate and a healthy amount of bourbon. Pour into a freezer-safe container, put in the freezer, and a few hours later you have a wonderful frozen, slushy, boozy drink.

Bourbon Slush Recipe (3)

Scoop some into a glass, pour your favorite lemon-lime soda over top and enjoy!

Bourbon Slush Recipe (4)

If you want to make this for tonight’s festivities, you definitely have time to mix it together this morning and then pop it in the freezer. If you use a wider, shallower container it will freeze up even faster!

I wish you all a very happy, festive and safe New Year’s Eve.

    Has anybody made this unfrozen?
I’m want to make this in my hotel room and wouldn’t have a freezer to keep it frozen. Thanks

  2. Paige Reply

Could you make this with different flavored concentrate? How do you think a raspberry concentrate would work or maybe a cherry?

    • Michelle Reply

Hi Paige, Yes, absolutely! Those both sound amazing!

This looks so delicious. I must make it for New Years! Anyone know of a tasty non-alcoholic substitute for the bourbon? My guests are teetotalers. Thank you for any suggestions!

This was a HUGE hit at my super bowl party yesterday! I used ginger ale as my carbonated beverage. I thought about having a glass before work this morning (hey, it has OJ in it, so I say breakfast!) but I decided to wait for apres-work. Thanks for the recipe!

    That’s a perfect sipping co*cktail :)

my family has been making a version of this for years! We call is “Schlater Slush” as that is my mom’s maiden name. Sounds like its not so unique to my family after all! (http://www.magpiesandmore.com/2010/12/whiskey-slush.html)

I also have this recipe using brandy; it’s one of those in a very old, very tattered recipe binder I’ve had since I was in my twenties…and that co*cktail has stood the test of time. I do think I have to try it with bourbon though..thanks for a great idea to switch it up.

This looks just like the slush I made for NYE, except I did mine with brandy. It is always a hit, and one of my favorites!

Please give your CCC a sympathy hug for me. I used to make this slush about 30 years ago. I remember one KC Chiefs game when we took a batch of this along & there were many happy (and loud) people who enjoyed it.
    Happy New Year

My mom makes a very similar recipe to this but instead of using bourbon, she adds tequila and triple sec…we call it Margarita slush :)
Sorry to hear about your CCC’s Nana. Hope you have a happy new year!

My mom who passed away on St Patrick’s day this year also made the drink for Christmas eve celebrations. Cheers to those we have lost as we celebrate the life we shared with them. Here is to your nabs & my mom.

I make something like this also. But after you boil the water and sugar, you shut off heat add tea bags, let it sit for a while, then add frozen OJ, frozen lemonade..I like to add pink lemonade. My Mom adds brandy, but I have started using rum..not spiced. So Yummy!! Then I end up using ginger-ale in place of the 7up!

My sympathies on the loss of your CCC’s grandmother. May you both remember many pleasant thoughts about her. I have nearly the exact same recipe but it uses brandy instead. Isn’t it an awesome drink?

I recently discovered from ordering a sazerac that I really like bourbon-dangerous discovery:) but now I’m on the lookout for bourbon drinks and this looks goooooood.

  27. Kristen Reply

My mom makes something similar but with vodka. She subs the bourbon for odka and the Oj for a lime concentrate. It’s delicious!

And sorry to hear about the chief’s nana.
